This year marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS)—a day to celebrate female scientists, innovators, and STEM leaders around the world.

Women remain under-represented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), but with mentorship, networking, and support, we can change the landscape for future generations.

How We Can Drive Change

  • Give opportunities: Encourage daughters and students to engage in STEM activities, workshops, and competitions.

  • Provide support: Celebrate their curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

  • Mentorship matters: Connect young women with role models in science to guide and inspire them.

Books to Inspire

Last year, I read books by local author Penny Haw, which highlight the stories of brilliant female scientists who faced challenges to be recognized for their contributions:

  • The Woman at the Wheel

  • The Invincible Miss Cust

These books show how women in science have overcome obstacles, inspiring the next generation to follow their passions and push boundaries.
